In a world marked by crises and inequality, we believe we need a lot more discussion, collective organising and action to critique the growth economy and demonstrate alternatives. Bringing people together using the concept of degrowth is key to help this to happen.
This network is a place for those who want to, or are already, acting, organising and campaigning for a degrowth world. We gather locally and nationally (online) every month to learn from each other, share updates and discuss plans and projects. The gatherings are dynamic and open: we make them what we want and encourage everyone equally to jump in with your ideas and make things happen.
The network is like a skeleton, or an ecosystem, providing spaces and forums for those interested in and enacting degrowth to come together and discuss, disagree and organise. There are already so many degrowth aligned projects and individuals around the country. This network allows us to connect both internally, and within a broader critique of economic growth and alternatives taking place globally.
We meet on the lands of First Nations Peoples across Australia, where sovereignty was never ceded. We stand in solidarity with the centuries of resistance that Indigenous Peoples have led against unsustainable and inhumane practices of capitalist colonisation, extraction and development. We strive to learn from Indigenous knowledge systems and ways of life which have long embodied the goal of modern day degrowth movements.
